Well, yes, I am back! If you are still here with me, then FABULOUS! There was so much that I was leaving behind here that it's been really getting to me so I needed to renew my presence as the original ScrapWisdomCollage girl!
I have been working really hard on surface pattern designs as I will be exhibiting at SURTEX May 18, 19, and 20, 2014! It's hard to believe that it is already 2014 and in 5 months, I will be in NYC presenting my artwork to the world! With still so much to do in order to prepare, I will be fairly quiet here but will jump in every chance I get.
I thought I would share a couple of designs that I have been working on. I'm really excited about how much fun I had creating the feathers for this design! I have been having to push myself to draw more and what I discovered is that if you push one design, you can create additional depth and interest by also creating layers that will interact with one another. My feathers started with a solid background image that I used as a guide to sketch the inner details with that would lay on top of the solid design. Then I created a third layer for my image by separating my scanned image in Illustrator.
Now I know not everyone has Illustrator but this design process can work even without it. All you need is your drawing paper, a couple of pieces of tracing paper and a black marker.
I'm sure you can see what I am talking about here. So I challenge you to take any image and think about it in layers. These could be 3 stamps you carve or even hand-cut stencils! Feel free to share them if you would like me to put them up on my blog!

I know what you mean about trying to make something perfect . I find it really hard to stylize but would very much like to do more of it.
For me, Atlanta starts off in just a couple of days (but won't be present in person this year!). I have big news, and would love for you to visit my blog over the upcoming week to see (I'm allowed to share my new products line on January 8th!).
