Studio Sunday - Deli Paper Addiction

I am an addict.  There, I said it!  Now that I've recognized that I have this problem, I should be able to help myself...BUT I CAN'T!  LOL

In fact, my drawer full of printed deli papers is soooooo full that in order to select from the huge variety of prints and colors, I now have to spread everything across the floor in order to pick the most appropriate piece!!!  This spread alone is plump with papers on top of papers AND the plastic drawer that they go in is still half full!  And, there is a separate drawer full of just black and white prints as well!  I might have to start selling these in bunches or giving them away!

I will be sharing my deli paper addiction with the workshop participants for PRINTING THE JOURNAL workshop that begins this week on March 21st only on  There is a special kit available only to the workshop participants that includes Thermofax screens, deli paper, squeegee and more!  This is your chance to start your own deli paper addiction!!!!  Go here to register if you are ready for the challenge!

Yes!  My own Thermofax Machine just arrived and it's still in the box :(  So much to do and so little time.  I plan on having everything ready to go by April 1st.  It seems far away but my weekends go flying by since there are way too few of them.  By April 1st, all of my images will be up in my Etsy shop.  These images will include just about every screen design I have produced to date and there will be new designs shortly following!

Unfortunately, the shipping charges on the international packages are going to increase somewhat.  I didn't realize that I had been receiving "special prices" from my gal at the post office so to ensure there are no issues with future deliveries outside the U.S., going forward I will need to push the shipping up.  I hate this because so many of my customers are outside the U.S. and the last thing I want to do is make it less affordable to order from me.

The studio is changing once again!  I moved my desk away from the brick wall and my living room is now open across the entire width of the loft unit.  I'll show more pics as soon as I clean this place up.  Too much going on right now to tidy up for pictures but I'll share soon.

Have a wonderful Sunday and a fantastic week!  We may be hunkering down for another storm mid week :( March has been significantly active and I can't figure out if it came in like a lion or a lamb and how it will move on past.

Studio Sunday from RI

Simple images.  There are so many ways that you can transform simple images.  As I sit in RI this morning thinking about new designs and I hope to soon have a workshop together that will show you how to do this in Photoshop Elements. It is one of the growing items on my "To Do" list LOL

Etsy Shop.  I know that there is a dwindling selection of Thermofax screens in my shop BUT I have great news!!!!!  I have been using a vendor to create my screens for me and starting next week I will have my own Thermofax machine!!!!  What does this mean?  Well, for one, I can make any screens ON DEMAND!!  So I will have to create a catalog that I will update on a regular basis where you will be able to see ALL of my designs so that you can select which ones you would like to purchase instead of being limited to what is in the  shop.  I will be figuring that out as I go along.  This week will be a transition week until I get up and running.

Just a reminder that my 4-week on-line workshop, Printing the Journal, that begins March 21st on is available for registration.  In this workshop we will make 3 different journals all using my layering techniques using hand-made sticky-back foam stamps, Thermofax screens, stenciling and monoprinting.  We will also be using my favorite deli paper!  Joggles is putting together a special kit for purchase that will contain 2 of my Thermofax screens, a squeegee, deli paper, cotton batting for the print surface and pre-cut chipboard covers and backs for the journals. Take a look at the description here and e-mail me if you have any questions!

I hope the snow is melting for you and signs of spring become visible.  That may be a slightly premature wish but it keeps me excited about the fresh shades of green that will appear very soon!!!  Have a wonderful, creative weekend and I will check back soon!

Studio Sunday - Re-visting Digital Monoprints

If you happened to attend the Live Webinar hosted by Quilting Arts this past week I hope you enjoyed it and that I inspired you to create images to convert to brushes in Photoshop Elements to then lay out your own designs for stencils and Thermofax screens.  During the webinar, we received a question from one of the participants who wanted to know more about how you could use Photoshop Elements and brushes and working in color.

It didn't occur to me at the time to direct those people back to my article in Quilting Arts Magazine's October/November 2011 issue, From Flat to Fabulous with Digital Monoprints.  This article shows step-by-step in Elements what I did to achieve the look and feel of the final image that was printed to a silk Jacquard ink jet fabric sheet to incorporate into my fiber art piece above, Indian Summer.  So if you have this issue, check out this article to see another way you can use Photoshop Elements and brushes.

I have been creatively challenged this weekend and I have the strongest urge to move the studio all around again but need a couple of strong guys to help me do it so that won't happen anytime soon.  I think the fact that spring is coming and I'm at a crossroads in my artwork and it has me feeling restless and anxious at the same time to take the next step in the direction I feel so strongly about which is surface and pattern design.  So here I am going to post my very first image of a design, kind of like a time capsule, so when I look back at it 6 months or 12 months down the road, I can see my own growth and improvement over the coming months.

Don't laugh!!!  It's ok, I'm laughing too :)  That's ok!  I'm learning to use the tools I need to make it work.  It's just taking me longer than if I took a class in it.  For now, I'm going to leave you with more images of finished (or semi-finished) pieces created in fabric from using Photoshop Elements!!

Have a fabulous weekend!!!

Friday, March 1, 2013

First, I'd like to say thank you to all of you who were on the live webinar yesterday and also to those who posted here for the FREE GIVEAWAY!!   Thank you for your interest, continued support and I hope I can continue to inspire you with ways that you can create your own personal imagery, and in this case, to enhance the surface design of your quilting projects and fiber art pieces.

So let's get to the WINNERS!!!  I used the Random Number Generator to select the winners from the blog comments.  There were 28 comments and one was a duplicate so I did not include that one.  So the total comments were 27.

CONGRATULATIONS TO Gill, Holly, and Geni!!!!  This means that you girls need to start doodling and making marks on paper to select images that I will create your own personal Thermofax screen from!

Please e-mail me directly at so that I can send out further information to you!!!

Thank you, again, everyone who participated here and attending the webinar!  Always feel free to ask me any questions about Photshop Elements and I will do my best to answer them!!!

Have a super creative weekend!!!
