Studio Sunday

It's snowing again!  But I am inside creating, creating and creating more!  Yesterday I was spraying dyes and paint through stencils and, of course, onto deli paper as well.  I'm just having a total blast layering imagery sometimes with intent and sometimes without.  Whatever feels good at the moment is what I go with!

I made a couple of layouts using my Circle Play stencil and Dylusions sprays.  I wanted to layer deli paper prints on top in areas but I was frequently frustrated with the dyes reactivating and smearing with the Mod Podge that I just gave up and layered over with paint instead.

In case I didn't mention it before, one of my favorite things about using stencils is being able to flip them over after spraying to get these reverse prints.

Here is a whole layout where I did add a few little pieces of deli paper kind of out of the way of the spray inks.  The collage below is WIP and I loved just pulling together different deli prints using the Joggles stencils to create a collage sheet.  I'm deciding now what to layer on top of this.  First, I will take it to Staples and make color laser copies of it so I can use various sections in more collages as I just love the colors of this one!  I am constantly making copies of layouts I have done just for the purpose of re-using them and I encourage everyone to do this at least once to see how you can stretch the imagery you create.

These are section shots only because I forgot to take a whole collage pictures which I will share later on.  I started by spraying my Grid A1 stencil with Liquitex Professional Spray Paint in Neutral Grey, which looks like charcoal to me, all over a piece of white watercolor paper.  Of course, I flipped the sprayed stencil over for the reverse image alternating between the two prints.  It is sooooo graphic!  I love it!!

Then, I had also used the stencil on a painted piece of deli paper and I ripped up the deli paper and began laying it over the black and white print sort of matching up areas that would blend together.

You can see above that I incorporated a color laser copy of a previous layout in the collage and then I also used a hand-made stamp to layer additional imagery on top.  Yummy!!!

Of course, stencil play is never complete without the Shooting Stars stencil from Joggles.com!  I love spraying and flipping with this one.  Then I went back over the top with the White Linen Dylusions  spray to see what would happen and you can see that in the bottom right corner a little.  I want to layer something on top of  this but I have to figure out what to do about the sprays.

This was a deli paper collage I worked on last weekend that incorporated hand-made stamps , printed deli papers and direct stenciling using the Joggles.com stencils.  I am having sooooo much fun playing with all this new imagery and I CAN'T GET ENOUGH!!!

If you missed yesterday's post, you have to go back and read that one!  I will be teaching how to make brushes in Photoshop Elements 10.0 through a live webinar hosted by Interweave/FW Media on February 28th!  This will cover how I take an image, transform it into a brush in Photoshop Elements and how I use that brush to create a layout for a Thermofax screen or stencil design!  You don't want to miss that if you have questions about how to get started using your own imagery!!

Also, make sure you comment on yesterday's post to be entered to win your own custom Thermofax screen from me!  I will work with your imagery to lay out your own custom screen!!!!  How cool is that???  Your imagery in a printable format for you to apply to your fabric or paper to enhance and personalize your surface design!!!  There will be 3 winners announced on March 1st here!!!

If you can join us on the live webinar on February 28th, you can see how easy I make it!!!

And don't forget to check out my on-line workshop, Printing The Journal, hosted on Joggles.com as I create 3 journals using all my techniques including Thermofax screen printing, stenciling, deli paper collage and sticky-back foam stamping!  Downloadable PDFs and videos lead you through the 4 weeks of lessons!!!  Come join us on March 21st for this fun workshop!!!!  Register Now!

Have a wonderfully creative weekend!!!!

Waiting on Nemo

I think it is hysterical that the big blizzard of 2013 is named Nemo!!  Little fish-big storm????  See what I'm saying?  I'm sure it is probably because "N" was next up in the alphabet, but still :)  My office, as well as so many others, is closing down tomorrow due to the storm.  The blizzard of '78 is famous here because employers let everyone leave early and they all ended up on the highway, stranded as the snow came down fast and hard.  People had to abandon their cars on the highway.

A more recent storm (3 or 4 years ago) had the Boston area gridlocked when the same exact thing happened.  Everyone went to work and school and were released early and commuters and buses filled with school children were all stuck for too many hours in major traffic jams.  I personally spent 4 hours on Rt. 95 that day but I heard about more people stuck for 8 hours.  So hopefully we have learned that the best place to be during a major winter storm is at home warm and safe.  Well, tomorrow, that's where I will be!!!  Perfectly happy in my studio for an entire extra day this weekend!!!  What a gift!

I definitely have a lot to do but I'm thinking I might be adding a new video to my Studio Series Free Videos that you can find a page for on my blog from the top menu bar.  For those who haven't seen them yet, I'm posting them here for your immediate viewing pleasure as I screen print on deli paper and watercolor paper for collage.

Enjoy!

Studio Sunday

Sunday is here and there are snowflakes falling outside my big windows.  I am cozy inside creating lots of stuff still in my PJs.  My newest NEWS is I am working on an article for the next issue of Cloth Paper Scissors PAGES publication!  I'm psyched beyond belief!!!  I'm still not sure when Art Journaling Exposed (e-book) is coming out, but I think they are finalizing it now.  I'll give a shout out as soon as I know it will be made available!  Don't forget, I also have my big Workshop DVD through Cloth Paper Scissors that will be released in May!  That's only 3 months away!!!

In addition to these wonderful projects, there will be a REALLY BIG ANNOUNCEMENT coming VERY SOON!!!  I'm over-the-top excited about it and can't wait to share it!  I know I keep saying that, but it is real and it is coming within the next week to 2.

I've been playing with my other two 6" x 6" stencils from Stencilgirlproducts.com, my Liquitex spray paints and screen-printed deli papers.

I totally love this collage above!  I started by spraying through the stencils on a color laser copy of a previous background I created.  I like to re-use my images and build on top of everything.  The two sections with the Circle Play stencil are actually the reverse stencil print after spraying the stencil.  It's cool if you flip it right over and print it to something (deli paper included).  My favorite print is the top left version because the stencil has a lot of paint just along the edges of the openings and creates a really interesting effect.  That was actually the second print with paint all over it.  The other section was the first which came out with more color than I thought I would be able to get.

This was an extra piece of journal page that I had cut up.  The background has both Dylusions sprays and Liquitex spray paint.  Then I sprayed charcoal grey Liquitex through the stencil and then layered a couple of pieces of deli paper for additional color.  I need that!!!  A lot of it!!!  Just don't know for what just yet. LOL I think it would make a radical fabric print on a modern style chair, though!

Well, this is what the studio looks like while I'm creating these days.  I just added tables so I have a total of 6 big tables that I can teach from as soon as I get a chance to develop a workshop!

Of course, the floor is never off limits!

Ohhhh look!  A sewing machine!!  I have got to get back to stitching one of these days!  For now I will just keep it out of the way of flinging paint!  If anyone is interested, I use red rosen paper that comes in big roles at Home Depot or Lowes which is used for laying floorcovering.  This is a really inexpensive way to protect my tables as everything from paint, glue, spray and who knows what else ends up on them.

I'm off to write an article and will share more info as I know more!  Have a super creative day, stay warm and stay healthy!!!
